MY NEIGHBORHOOD

My neighborhood is located at Bayside, Queens, New York. Bayside is a classic model for the concept of better city, better lives. This is the topic of the world EXPO 2010. Bayside is a place that located at north-east of New York City, nearby Little Bay and Little Neck Bay. Cross Island Parkway is the main connection between Bayside and Whitestone. And Clearview Expressway is connecting to its south side-Fresh Meadow. East side, it has the LongIsland Expressway to connecting to Long Island. And last at the North side the Throgs Neck Bridge is between Bayside and the Bronx.
Bayside is one of the city has a great environment in New York City. It has many of parks for proving a wonderful rest for its resident. Also Bayside has many broad and flat roads are proving convenience travel. Trees are all around the city, so fresh air is all around the resident. Bayside is a clean city, you will hard to find a piece of paper on the ground. There is a very big difference between Bayside and other cities, Bayside doesn’t have any factories, and this is the reason for proving the best lives to the resident.
Bayside is one of the community has the best opportunity for education. Bayside High School, Cardozo High School and Francis Louis High School are one of the schools standing top in New York City’s education system. Queensborough community college is one of the branches of City University of New York. Many of people are choosing to move to Bayside just because the school district.
Bayside also is one of the powerful cities in economy. Stories, gas stations, and super markets are all over the city. Northern blvd and Bell blvd are the marks of it.
I begin to take a walk from Bay Terrace Mall. Bay Terrace Mall is the largest shopping mall in Bayside. It has book store, super market, cinema, and a lot of cloths store. Bay Terrace Mall has a huge parking lot, its very convenience for consumers. Cross the mall, I am in Bell blvd and 26th Ave, and I decide do point to Bayside High School. Most of houses in Bayside are single family homes. And they also have a huge front yard and back yard. This is residential area, so the street is quiet, but I can see someone is walking with their dogs. 10 minutes later, I reach Bayside High School. In front of the school is a large park with one soccer field and one basketball field, beside the park is a child playground. Students are playing games in the park after school. And the school soccer team is practicing. I keep going, back to Bell blvd and 35th Ave. residential was replaced by business stores. I keep moving on Bell blvd. This is a busy commercial street, and vehicles and pedestrian are full around the street. After Northern blvd, I see residential area again. On Northern blvd, I turn right on 223rd St. I see a lake, people fishing in the lake, and some people jogging beside the lake. I close my eye, and imagine, this will be the most beautiful picture I saw today.
5 minutes later, I reach Queensborough community college. Beside the Queensborough is Cardozo High School. Then I take the bus to go home.

VEIL

Veil is a sign of Muslim women, and it also is a sign of blocked their freedom, opportunity of educated, career, and others. Slamic law is the product of Quranic guidelines, as understood by Islamic jurisprudence, as well as of the interpretations derived from the traditions of Prophet Muhammad, that were agreed upon by majority of Muslim scholars as authentic beyond doubt based on the Science of Hadith These interpretations and their application were shaped by the historical context of the Muslim world at the time they were written. Many of the earliest writings were from a time of tribal warfare which could have been inappropriate for the 21st Century.
The Marxist writer, Valentine M. Moghadam argues that the position of women are mostly influenced by the extent of urbanization, industrialization, proletarization and political ploys of the state managers rather than culture or intrinsic properties of Islam; Islam, Moghadam argues, is neither more nor less patriarchal than other world religions especially Hinduism, Christianity and Judaism.

LANGUAGE AND POWER

I remember that was in the year i am grade 3. Almost everyday after school, i and my friends will play soccer at the park behind our school. There is one day changed. Around ten people came with the soccer ball, wearing different school uniform, "hey, your low grade stupids, get out of the field." We are fear because they are in different school, and looks like grade 5 or grade 6. "Why we should leave? We have been here first." I shouted. "Because you are a little boy, and you are suppose to learning how to drink milk at home." Then they just took the field to play soccer, and we can just leave.

MUSIC

I like listen to music when I am free. I feel music is a good way to relax myself. There are many different types of music in our lives. You can choose one of you like. When I have pressure or trouble, then i will take a rest and listen to music, let my mind also has rest, also makes me so comfortable. After listen to music, my heart will become calm, then will let my mind feel clear, make me have more power to focus on others.

SPRING-BREAK

In this spring break, I went to Casino to watch concert with my friends. The Band Team came from Taiwan, there were so many people go to watch them. They are very popular in Taiwan and China. In the concert, every body is very exited, they danced with the Band together. Even though the concert opened at 2am, nobody feel tired and sleepy. They followed singer's pose to do and they did not want to leave after the concert finished. I liked the show very much.

MY HOBBY

My hobby is soccer. I play it with my friend every Friday. I like soccer because it is a team-work game. Every team member has their own position. I played soccer since 4 years old, and i was the soccer team member in primary school, and jouiner school. I made friends when I play soccer in the park. Soccer is a good sport for us because it is a whole body movement. Soccer is one of my favorite sports.

CENSUS

These days, census are cover in our lives. You will see so many posters to remind you to fill out the census every where. That shows census is very important for us. It not only can know how many population in USA, also they can count how many population in different countries. I feel Census is a very good idea to calculate population, every body must need to do. This is a good responding for the countries.

ATTENDING COLLEGE

I am attending college because i need to prepare for a career also want to study something i love. Money is very important for me, because if you do not have money, then you can not live in the world; also all the people want to have high education, the purpose is to get more money in the future. Even though money is not the whole things in our lives, but it is a essential thing for us.

COLLEGE ATHLETES GET PAID

College athletes should not get paid. Because they are not professional athletes, they cannot get income for college. For the professional athletes, the companies can get income from them, they are sources of income for the companies. But college never use athletes to get income; On the contrary, they provide equipments, place to athletes to practices, also they provide funds for them. So i suggest college should not pay for athletes then they can save money for college.

HOME-SCHOOLING

I do not like home-schooling, I would not consider home-schooling my own children. Because schools have professional teachers. They have experiences and knowledge to teach students, also schools have education system so that if students attend to school, then they can learn formal knowledge. For home-schooling, the advantage is children do not need to go to school so they can stay at home. But the disadvantage is they cannot learn formal education at home, because home-schooling is not professional, everybody can become a home-schooling teacher.

SAME-SEX SCHOOL

i disagree for the same-sex school, i would not attend one also i would not consider putting my own children in one. Because if all the children attend to same-sex schools, then they only can communicate with the same-sex people. They will lose communicate skill with different sex. After they graduate from same-sex high school, they won't know how to along with the other different sex people. That is not good for them, also that is not good for them to work in the future.

NYC high school closing

19 NYC High Schools Were Illegally Closed, Judge Rules; Mike Bloomberg, Joel Klein Get Smacked Down.
A judge ruled today that New York City's Department of Education illegally closed 19 high schools earlier this year. Several news outlets are reporting the breaking decision (Post, WABC).
The move to close the schools earlier this year was contentious and included a protest in front of Mayor Bloomberg's house. The actual vote to do so followed a raucous nine-hour hearing on January 26 before the Panel for Educational Policy.

The immediate impact of the ruling is not clear, but the jubilation at one school on the death list is. "Everyone is ecstatic at the news. Everyone is thrilled," says Christine Rowland, a vigorous opponent of the closures who teaches at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. "The timing is wonderful. People are just about to have a break, and we're very, very happy."

Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein have both been proponents of closing the 19 low-performing high schools and replacing them with multiple, smaller schools. Opponents have charged that the plan is a shell game that disproportionately affects low-income, minority neighborhoods, and fails to take into account what the neighborhoods want.

But State Supreme Court Judge Joan Lobis ruled the department's Panel for Education Policy committed "significant violations of Education Law" and "appeared to trivialize the whole notion of community involvement in decisions regarding the closing or phasing out of schools," WABC reports.

The United Federation of Teachers and the NAACP sued last month to stop the closures, and it appears that they have succeeded — at least until an appeal.

Letters notifying eighth-graders where they will be going next year had been scheduled to be mailed earlier this week but were delayed pending today's ruling.

I disagree with the education department trying to closing some high school. In NYC, population are still increasing, including many of immigration and new born people, and the number of people in high school is increasing also. The year of 2003, Bayside high school have 1500 students, but in 2008, the number is almost 3000. So we can see what we need is to set up more high school not closing.

I BELIEVE IN SELF-EDUCATION

I believe self-education is more important than institution education because self education can be anything that takes you out of your comfort zone. The important part is keeping an open mind and searching for fresh ideas. People can take any places when they would like to educated themselve, and they have the power of motive. So i belive self education is more important.
